"This stunning photo epitomizes the notion of "being at the right place at
the right time". Much of my career has been devoted to the study of
cardinalfishes, having spent hundreds of underwater hours observing
their interesting behavior. It's a well known fact that the male receives the
eggs from the female and then incubates them orally for several days, but I
have never witnessed this event and this is the first photograph I've come
across. Excellent work!"

RUNNER UP: ADRIANO MORETTIN
Merit of Excellence Award plus AUD 550 OG Expedition voucher for Cenderawasih Bay, Raja Ampat, or Cuba

“This excellent photo captures a rare moment of feeding behaviour in a
tiny gobiid fish. The head on view gives us on unusual perspective and the
definition is outstanding, showing the intricate pattern of cephalic sensory
papillae. "
